Last years release of "Punk Goes Crunk" was met with much criticism. So, it seems that the series creators are returning to something a little bit more on the safe side.

The "Punk Goes" series has run the gamut of musical genres and periods (80's, 90's, Metal, Pop, Accoustic 1 &2, Country and Crunk) and after the major bombing of last years "Crunk" release, it seems that the series will once again return to the Pop genre.

The release date is set for February 17, 2009. Fans of the series are already awaiting the release with bated breath, but if the record companies deliver another severe dissapointment, it may be the end for "Punk Goes" and listeners will never get to hear such punk possibilities as "Punk Goes Broadway," "Punk Goes Indie," or "Punk Goes To The Movies."

What Could Make This Album Succeed?

Record companies are going to have to push artists to strive for new heights with this album. The first "Pop" compliation was not great. Most artists took little liberties with the songs and the covers fell a little short of the mark. So, perhaps this time they're going to push for a grittier punk sounds and hit the ball out of the park.

The choice of "Pop" may be a good one, as hardcore "Punk" fans will enjoy a good mockery of the mainstream. Though, it is completely up to the recording artists as to whether or not this project will succeed. For the sake of the series, this album better be something spectacular.

What/Who Can We Expect On The Next Album?

The finalized track listing for the album has not yet been revealed, though it is rumored that All American Rejects, Rise Against, Gym Class Heroes, Plain White T's, Jack's Manniquin, Thrice, Mayday Parade and all time low have already signed on for the project. Hopefully a few of the Punk greats will sign on as well.

As it stands, the bands are mostly of the "Pop Punk" variety which may not provide listeners with what they're really craving. Much criticism has been given on the band choices of the past, saying that the albums are merely new pop artists singing older pop artist songs and that there isn't a punk band in site. Though, it's too early to tell whether or not some real punk bands will sign on.

Once the track listing is released, listeners should at least have a better idea of how the album is going to go down. Hopefully, the track listing will bring joy and hope to the avid "Punk Goes" fans out there... Names list NOFX, Lagwagon and The Horror Pops may also draw some attention (Hint! Hint! Fearless!).

Hopefully Fearless Records recovers with this album, though they can't really fall any further.
