After years of dominating the rock music charts, pop punk band Fall Out Boy now has its eyes on a new record book: the Guinness Book of World Records.

Just a year after the release of its double platinum-certified album Infinity on High, Fall Out Boy has announced that it will be attempting to set the world record for the first band to tour all 7 continents in under 9 months. News of the stunt, which will be certified by Guinness Book of World Records adjudicators, comes just 2 weeks before the release of the band's new live album, "****".

Origins of the Tour

The band's 7-continent tour technically started last summer when the band played a show in Johannesburg, South Africa. The band then played shows in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia throughout the fall.

According to MTV News, the idea for the "tour" came from the band's bassist and frontman, Pete Wentz. As he told MTV, "I was just sitting around and wrote [FOB's manager] Bob [McLynn] an e-mail saying, 'Let's be the first band to go to all 5 continents' — only he wrote me back, 'There are 7."

Next Stop: South America and Antarctica

2 continents remain on Fall Out Boy's check list: South America and Antarctica. The South America date is easy enough, and has been set for March 23rd, 2008, when the band plans to play at the Teatro Teleton in Santiago, Chile.

However, the Antarctica trip is a bit trickier, due to the fact that Antarctica isn't the most popular place to live in the world. The date for that concert has been set for March 25th, 2008, at the Base Presidente Eduardo Frei Montalva scientific research center on the King George Island.

The band is encouraging fans to travel with them from Chile to Antarctica. According to Victory Cruises, the trip will cost $2500 and includes trips to see penguins, seals, and glaciers. Since most of Fall Out Boy's fans won't be able to board a plane to Antarctica next week, MTV News has announced that it will cover the event on its MTV cable channel. The band will also document the trip with its own video recording devices.

Raising Global Warming Awareness

The crazy trip won't be solely for kicks, however. Fall Out Boy has also partnered with international organization Greenpeace to raise awareness for global warming. Greenpeace had a research base on Antarctica in the late '80s and early '90s, and had drawn up the Madrid Protocol which banned mining on the continent. The sponsorship comes after Fall Out Boy performed at the major global warming awareness event Live Earth last July in New York City.

Thus, if all goes as planned, Fall Out Boy will next week become the fastest band to travel all 7 continents.
